PTO Meeting Minutes for January 21, 2010

In Attendance: Peggy Dix, John Lundin, Tammy Leyda, Melissa Blair, Charity Stenger, Lisa Stropki, Jen Bolyard and Tara Walker.

Meeting called to order. Minutes approved. Treasurer’s report approved. Account has a balance of $13,542.00.

Principal’s Report: Mr. Lundin, Sandy Valley Elementary is having a great year so far. A few changes were made to the Building Wide Discipline Program. Has received a lot of positive feedback on this. Report cards go home on 1/22/10.

Principal’s Report: Tammy Leyda, Coming up in February-Video conference with Stark Parks, Book Fair and Parent/Teacher conferences.

Old Business: Peggy asked if art waxer has been used yet. Not known. Jen Bolyard read Mission Statement that was sent out for vote. It was approved.

Business in Motion: Shannon McDade has taken over leadership of yearbook committee. Jen Bolyard reported that the Box Tops/Campbell Soup Labels collections are going well. About $500.00 worth of box tops are brought in each week. Keep them coming!! A field trip suggestion to downtown Canton was made for the fourth grade, such as the Repository, WHBC radio station, the courthouse, maybe the hotel.
Field trips planned for this year are: Kindergarten-Akron Zoo, 1st grade-McKinley Museum, 2nd grade-HOF, 3rd grade-community trips, 4th grade-planetarium or downtown Canton, 5th grade-COSI (?).

Business in Motion con’t:
3rd, 4th and 5th grade T-shirts need to be ordered.
There are five finalists for the trip to Florida from “School Mall”. They are Taylor S., Megan G., Tiffany L., Natalie O. and Heather M.

Money Machine tentative date: Friday, Feb. 5th. Animal Land tentative date: Friday, Feb. 5th. Limo ride tentative date: May 13th @ 11:00am.

New Business: Anti-Abduction classes will try to be scheduled in February. About sixty-five seat cushions are still available for sale for $10.00 each. PTO will support Jump for the Heart thru the American Heart Association. Pledges will be taken and prizes awarded. PTO will support the teacher conferences dinner by giving $10.00 per person.

The next PTO meeting will be Feb. 18th at 6:00pm.
